Timestrip
manufacture an innovative perishable food labeling system.
They are a new company And a British success story,
marketing their product around the globe. They are small
company with a focus on sales thus do not have much
time on their hands to spend on managing their I.T.
Like many small companies Timestrip
do not have dedicated I.T. Staff. Any time spent managing
I.T. is wasted time for Timestrip.
Paul freedman, company director at
Timestrip says, "We implemented our I.T systems
to improve our business operations. For us I.T. is there
to reduce the amount of time we spend on administration,
so we can get on with running the business and making
sales. We simply can't spare valuable business cycles
managing something that was bought in order to make
our working lives more simple."
Timestrip's internal IT infrastructure
is not large or complex. However like every company
in business today, Timestrip are continually creating
and storing data. Over time some of the volumes on their
servers became full or near to being full. At these
times, Timestrip's staff have had to divert their time
away from proactive business activity in order to identify
data that can bee deleted off the company servers. "As
our servers have become more full, this has become a
more regular occurrence,” says Freedman.
By implementing Utilistor Disk Space
Reporter, Timestrip have been able to automate the production
of regular reports that provide alleviate this problem.
Now on a weekly basis, Freedman gets
reports that detail where disk utilisation is high,
and lists of files that are candidates for deletion.
"We have managed to reduce an un-welcome job that
was costing us wasted time on a weekly basis, to a complete
non issue that involves no more than scanning through
a couple of reports once every few weeks."
In addition to this, Timestrip also
found that they have managed to put off an impending
hardware upgrade. "At the time we implemented Utilistor
we were on the verge of upgrading our hard drives to
give us some more capacity. However by implementing
Utilistor we have been able to reclaim so much disk
capacity that we now don't have to think about that
purchase until next year."
In tandem with extra disk capacity
Timestrip would have needed to purchase a new tape device.
So they saved on that spend as well.
Even better, with Disk Space Reporter's
predictive analysis Timestrip can forecast in advance
when their servers will run out of disk capacity and
thus be able to plan and budget for it.
Otium's aim is to provide simple, easy
to implement easy to use software that takes I.T. problems
away.
In the Case of Timestrip, this has been achieved.
