Central is a successful translation company operating
out of several countries across Europe. They pride themselves
on being able to provide cost effective translation services
across a huge range of languages. In
order to be able to offer this service, Translation
central have to keep contact with hundreds of contractors
from all over the world. This ensures their ability
to offer the widest possible range of translation options.
Having
so many “transient” and relatively unknown
users does not come without problems. Alexis Sheldon,
company director at Translation Central explains “We
have literally hundreds of translators that are able
to store files on our system and it became very difficult
for us to know which files were for legitimate translation
central use and which were not.”
Further
to this Translation central were faced with a number
of other concerns. They had genuine worries as to whether
any illegal or offensive data was being stored on their
network. They also knew that a large amount of legitimate
business data had now become dated. It was no longer
needed on a day to day basis.
Sheldon
told us “We knew we had this problem, and we knew
it was costing us money and resource, however we are
small company and none of us can afford the time to
trawl through hundreds of thousands of files trying
to identify the problem data.”
That’s
where Otiums Utilistor tm Disk Space reporter solved
the issue for Translation Central. “The product
installed with no fuss what so ever” Alexis Told
us. Within minutes Translation Central were able to
set a schedule of scans and reports that enabled them
to identify various different data types.
The
management team at Translation Central now receive weekly
reports on their data which give them the information
they require to keep on top of their data related issues.
They
have reports showing potentially offensive data, infrequently
accessed data, unusually high users of data, and prediction
reports for when certain resources are likely to need
upgrading.
Translation
central have been able to reduce the amount of legacy
data on their systems, this has enabled them to provide
more system resource for their current crop of active
translators.
They
have identified data that was deemed inappropriate to
be stored on their corporate infrastructure, and as
an added bonus they have significantly reduced the size
of their nightly backups which has eased pressure on
a backup setup which had been “creaking at the
seams”.
Otium’s
aim is to provide products that make our customer’s
day to day life more simple. In the case of Translation
central that’s exactly what we achieved |
